It's possible they had no input into this clip and were just told what to do by the director. A lot of 80's 'arty' clips make no sense. Blame the directors!

One of the best albums ever yet, even as brilliant as these guys were as musicians, they were horrible at the visual arts like every other band in the '80s. In their defense, NO ONE made good videos then and few make good ones now. The music video is like a waxen nose to the auditory arts. Why would ANYONE think that a band could pull a Stanley Kubrick? What a colossal waste of time it was reliving this horrible video. I'll listen to this album 1,000 times before watching this crap again.
