These guys are never remembered as much as the RAF and USAF pilots of WW2. They were equally brave and courageous men.

I had the great pleasure of meeting and interviewing General Rall for my book. He is without a doubt the most remarkable man I have ever met. His biography MY LOGBOOK is an excellent read - can't recommend it enough. John Martin Bradley

as far as i know, the cannon in the hub from the emil was removed, caused by problems with overheating.

He was the head in the early 60's I believe of the new luftwaffe, I have read that in combined training he (flying sabre's) was able to dominate every other countries aircraft/pilots.. the the point that the USAF brought him over for additiional traing of their pilots.. Legend has it that never lost the "look" of a real killer, and it was apparent to all he was still the best..

This video clip is featured in the Flight simulator by JANES, "WWII Fighters".
The ME-109E (Emil) also had the cannon in the propeller shaft. Notable because of the edged propeller hub.
Great piloten.

I had the pleasure of meeting and having dinner with Herr Rall during a fighter pilot symposium in Las Vegas in the late 70's. He has written an autobiography entitled " My Logbook". It will answer all your questions regarding the aircraft and armanent he used. |
