...works and why you are doing it. If you are missing that, you're missing a LOT of your training. The traditional forms of TKD, Karate, Gung Fu, etc. were designed to have the student practice as well as study the application. Forms are beautiful if done in the right way. But you need to know what's under the surface, which will benefit your training and make it more worthwhile. Take care and train hard!

Aero, you are too presumptive. No, I'm not a 4th Dan anymore, just got promoted to 5th Dan. I've had over 20 yrs. experience in Martial Arts. "Hidden" application means that there is more to a move than a simple block, it can be used as a strike, throw, or targeting a specific target not normally considered. Application is vital, otherwise how are you going to know how to effectively use what you've been taught if/when you need to? Just performing a move isn't enough, you need to know how it

hmm...."hidden" applications of forms? The fact that you are relating forms and application, tells me you're not a 4th Dan. I have no idea why but all the "Western" martial artists are obsessed with application and practicality of martial arts. Martial ARTS! It's a form of art. I'm a Korean born, raised , partially trained in Korea and continued my training in the US. So I understand and know both sides. |
