Ah, spoken with the ignorance that one can only find in the North. What makes you think that all Union soldiers are saints? Men are men, and there are going to be good AND the bad...on both sides. So please, stop this disillusion you have about the Union Army. They raped and did just as much nastiness as you claim the South to have done. You just happened to have won and thus get the opportunity to whitewash your victory. Educate yourself son, it's a world of difference.

Actually civil rights had very little to do with the civil war. The South wanted to bring their slaves into the west and the North wanted an all white west. The south felt as though they were getting screwed and left the union. The North used the plight of the slave to rally the troops but in reality Lincoln wanted to keep the union in tact and could care less about the slaves. And yes that is in a book! Stop fighting with each other and realize both parties are out to screw you!

ANd after he saw the Brutality of slavery he fought to end it. He actually wanted to kept the spread of slavery to end prior to 1858. But it was the Democratic Party and their KKK groups that surpressed the Black vote till Johnson signed the Civil rights bill in the 1960s... The GOP ALWAYS sided with the Black civil rights... the liberals today never admit to that, but the ilks of Bryd of West Virginia will tell you. Got that in your book?
